A precharge function limits the initial current into a capacitive DC link. Whether it belongs in the battery or the connected equipment depends on the supported system architecture. Specify the expected voltage response and failure behavior before choosing components.
Establish the start-up requirements
Request the inverter input capacitance or approved inrush data, the battery voltage envelope, and the permitted startup sequence. Review how the controller determines that precharge succeeded. A timer alone does not establish that the bus reached the expected condition.
Specification checklist
| Review area | Evidence to request |
|---|---|
| Voltage envelope | Pack and DC-link limits |
| Inrush | Equipment data and permitted repetition |
| Success criterion | Approved voltage or diagnostic evidence |
| Failure response | Timeout, inhibition and service record |
A bus voltage does not rise as expected
Review the time-stamped pack and bus voltage records against the approved sequence. An external load, unexpected initial condition or failed path can produce different signatures. Stop at the approved fault state and investigate rather than repeatedly commanding startup.
Acceptance and handover
Record the exact hardware and firmware revisions, the conditions under which the system was assessed, and the person who approved the outcome. Keep unresolved items visible in the commissioning record. Installation and fault validation require an approved procedure and qualified personnel.
Frequently asked question
Can I copy another system’s precharge settings?
No. The battery, converter, switching hardware and startup conditions determine the required design and validation.
